What do we deserve?

Humans.

What do we deserve?

The air we breathe?

Certainly not. Not after we fill it with impurities in the name of civilization still expecting to breathe it in pure.

Pure.

What is that word?

Do we deserve it?

Certainly not. Not after creating the word itself. Why take letters and create words that only demean others. How would Impure feel?

Feel.

How do we know what that is?

Do we deserve it?

Certainly not. Not after creating harsh touches. Why do some feel pain and others feel the opposite?

Opposites.

What does that mean?

Do we deserve it?

Certainly not. Not when opposites are laughed upon, killed or are deemed outcasts to the world.

The World.

How did we get here?

Do we deserve it?

Certainly not. Not when we destroy it for our entertainment or the supposed improvement of what we call our skin.

Our Skin.

How did we get them?

Do we deserve it?

Certainly not. Not when we bring down sharp knives and words on it, killing it before it is declared dead.

Death.

How did it come about?

Do we deserve it?

Certainly so. Surely in death, the Earth would bloom as it ceases to be ours.

My Best Friend

I had a best friend, once. She was everything I was not. Where, she was the sun, I was a bird enjoying the rays of the sun. Where, she was a mountain, I was a rock from the mountain. All that doesn’t matter now, she’s gone, you see? And by her own hands too! A brave girl, my best friend was.   On the day of my best friend’s funeral, everyone chanted the same things. ‘If only I had seen the signs’ they said. ‘If only she had talked to me’ they cried. ‘Why didn’t she ask for help?’ they raged. All I did was watch. All that doesn’t matter now, she’s gone, you see? And by her own hands! Brave girl, she was.   I had a best friend, once. I saw the signs, they hurt my eyes. I felt her tears, they wet my shoulders. I felt her pain, it made me bleed. Maybe I should join the rest of them. Ask myself why I did nothing, lie to myself that I saw no signs.
